Mothers Day Gift Ideas

This year, our May roundup focuses on motherhood. Recognizing the cycles of the season of life and the phases of maiden, mother and crone -- we define a mother as anyone who offers kindness, wisdom, education and love to someone younger.

I found throughout my years that I have had many mothers. Teachers. Wise women. Some who have always been there, some who touched on my life and imprinted on me, others who I wish were still here. I have been blessed and raised by a village.

In honor of the mother, our mantra this month is So Hum.

Literally translated to "I am that". Powerful words that many scholars have interpreted "that" to be the Universe. More modern views lend to the actual meaning being that we are all connected. And. We are all connected.

A simple meditation: Sit in comfortable stillness and close your eyes. On your in breath, say silently to yourself "So" and on the out "Hum". Repeat this for 5 minutes. If you find your mind wandering, simply, and kindly return your attention to the mantra.

Unique Gifts For Mom

Our May pause is centered on the flame of this beautiful Mother's Day candle. Crafted with pure essential oils of Lavender and topped with lavender flower and amethyst. A simple yet thoughtful gift for mom.

Quite literally. She said "You need a candle for Mother's Day". I took it as a hint. How can I say no to the woman who raised me.  Forget how hard it is to find the perfect gift for mom, try designing one for all moms....{smile}

women who run with wolves

On the nightstand: Women Who Run With Wolves.

In Women Who Run With the Wolves, Dr. Estés unfolds rich intercultural myths, fairy tales, and stories, many from her own family, in order to help women reconnect with the fierce, healthy, visionary attributes of this instinctual nature. Through the stories and commentaries in this book, we retrieve, examine, love, and understand the Wild Woman and hold her against our deep psyches as one who is both magic and medicine.

I recommended this book to one of my friends a few months ago, she came into my office last week and stated she wasn't quite understanding it. I told her that a long time ago, stories were the way we passed down information and that the book was a series of stories celebrating woman. Each story is followed by a dissection of the learning points to the fable. so. Make sure you get past the story and into the explanation before you choose to place it back on the shelf.

Moonstone Healing Gem

Our healing gemstone for May is Moonstone.

Moonstone has been used for centuries as a feminine gemstone to harness the energies of the moon and to help the cycles of motherhood. A true gemstone of childbirth, postpartum, and beyond.

Use it to express soothing, feminine, calm energies and to help restore your power, tap into your intuition and regain your inner balance.

When harnessing the power of gemstones, it's best to keep them close--in modern times that may mean wearing them, or using some as pocket stones. We gladly take any excuse to align with these beauties in form of jewelry.
